Longtime White House journalist Helen Thomas delivered a steady stream of witty, often brutally honest remarks on the last 10 U.S. presidents to a full audience of students in the Elliott School Tuesday night. Residents of Darby's embattled 3rd Ward will meet with Mayor Helen Thomas and the borough's police force to discuss methods of stopping the bloodshed on their streets. Thomas announced at Wednesday's council session that the "Stop the Violence" meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Penn Wood Middle School, 121 Summit St. "After a brief period of (crimes) going down, we are still having a lot of problems in the area," Thomas said, noting that a stabbing was reported in the ward Tuesday night.

Veteran White House correspondent, 89, believes U.S. hasn't done enough to advance Mideast peace. On her 89th birthday, Hearst Newspapers columnist and veteran reporter Helen Thomas received a tray of cupcakes and personal congratulations from U.S. President Barack Obama in the White House briefing room. But it seems that the veteran reporter, who covered every U.S. president since John F. Kennedy, requires from the Obama administration more than personal attention and cupcakes.  

An acquaintance of mine sees the Bill of Rights as largely a waste of time, as the world would be far more peaceful, productive and pleasant if everyone simply did as she says.
